GIVING BACK TO THE SOCIETY
Joining KEEPING HOPE ALIVE
In school, we learnt about Value In Action. Although the school had brought us to an old folks home before, that experience was different from helping out regularly.
饮水思源 Gratitude is one of Pei Chun’s motto. So, my mother brought us to join the KEEPING HOPE ALIVE volunteers who have offered to help low-income families. It was an eye-opening experience and I realised that I am truly blessed as I have never known that there were so many less fortunate families that need help. As I am young, my role often involved distributing food. Through this, it made me appreciate what I have even more.
Being with demantia patient
Giving back to society is not just restricted to joining charitable organisation as it can also start from home.
My maternal grandmother is currently suffering from dementia. Because of her illness, she is very forgetful and can be very impatient. Spending time with her weekly and learning to be patient helps me understand other difficulties that people might face.
As my grandmother goes to the Day Care Centre on weekdays, I like to follow my mother to pick her up at the end of the day. My mother told me that my grandmother used to pick me up from the childcare, and I feel a little sad that now I am the one doing the same.
Character Building
Pei Chun's school motto is 礼义廉耻。饮水思源. It emphasises character building and to get this bronze medal, I needed to demonstrate the values through my daily actions as well as academically. I may not have been the top student in class, I never gave up and strived to improve to do better. I am proud to say that I managed to achieve my goals.
